Let’s Talk about Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is the uneven pigmentation of the skin where the affected area usually appears darker than the other parts of the skin, and could get worse from sun exposure. This includes skin discoloration caused by acne and freckles exposed to the sun often, eczema and more. These skin conditions cause the production of excess melanocytes (the cells that produce melanin) leading to hyperpigmentation. Treating hyperpigmentation can get frustrating in the long term because many people don’t even understand it. At Arami, we get it that’s why we have outlined a few ways to say goodbye to hyperpigmentation.

Avoid excessive sun exposure: Although the sun is a great source of natural vitamin D, prolonged exposure does more harm than good. Scientists advise that depending on your skin tone, 1-3 hours of mild sun exposure is sufficient. Excessive exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays have been shown to cause skin cancer, sunburn, cataracts and so on. As a rule of thumb, always apply sunscreen before you go outdoors as protection even when you think you don’t need it and re-apply every 2 hours for maximum protection. Foods such as cod liver are also capable of providing adequate vitamin D in cases of deficiency.

Use shea butter: Shea butter is rich in vitamin E also known as the “skin protector” and vitamin A which helps skin cells regenerate, making shea butter ideal for treating hyperpigmentation. We know it’s hard to find unadulterated shea butter so Ivory Butter is our gift to you. We start with pure shea butter and mix in skin friendly oils for their appealing scent and further benefits to skin.

Get frequent facials: Regular spa facials are essential in fighting hyperpigmentation however, this can get costly. Instead, stay home and let our fantastic five do the work.
